How to cook "Herring in mayonnaise with onions"
Prepare the indicated ingredients. Purchase herring fresh or frozen. Using the latter option, be sure to defrost the fish before cooking.
Peel the onions, rinse in water and cut into rings. If the vegetable is small, then use 2 pieces. Place half the onion layer on the bottom of the container in which you will marinate the herring.
Gut the herring, remove the black film inside the abdomen, cut off the head, fins and tail, rinse the carcass. Cut into pieces and place on top of the onion layer.
Season the fish pieces on both sides with salt and pepper, and add the black peppercorns.
Put mayonnaise of any fat content and grease fish pieces with it on all sides.
Place the remaining onion rings on top and massage the contents of the container with pressure so that the onion slices release the juice. Cover it with cling film, leaving a small hole for air, and place in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. It is advisable to stir it several times during this time.
After the indicated time, taste the appetizer, then put the herring directly in the marinade on a plate and serve.
